In March, 1954, age 12, I went to Woodstock School, located in Mussoorie, in the foot hills of the Himalaya mountains northeast of New Delhi. Groups of students arrived in "parties" from different locations. Here the Malaya Party poses in either Singapore or Calcutta. Pictured are Jack Day, Carolyn Reinoehl, Maxine Foss, Bonnie McGraw, Gail Pillay, Penny Shumaker, Ruth Kesselring, and Robin Pillay. Our route took us from Singapore to Calcutta where we stayed in the Great Eastern Hotel, then the next day to Delhi, and that evening we would board a train filled with Woodstock students from all over India. The next morning the train would arrive in Dehra Dun. From Dehra Dun a bus would take us up the mountain to Mussoorie. The motor road in the 1950's went no farther than the bus depot at Kincraig, from where it was a three to four mile walk the remainder of the trip to Woodstock. The picture above is from 1955 or 1956.

Ridgewood
The School's residencies were spread over several ridges. In this photo, to the right is Midlands or College, where the high school girls lived, and at the bottom is the Boys Hostel for high school boys. Elementary School boys, which I was in 1954, lived in Ridgewood, the building in the center.
