Kalton St'Warron is an 11 year old orphan who travels around Kwancha without direction.  He's utterly possessed by depression, and doesn't seem to want to do much more than think about how miserable his life is.  He really has had a painful, and cruel life, though.   He was born to an unwed young woman named Allison St'Warron.  His father, Rinold Cacimber, was a member of the Leukimborian Regime, a group of people who wanted their country freed from Zeru at any cost.  He only had a brief fling with Allison when he passed through her city, and they never saw each other again.  Because she was an unmarried mother, her and Kalton became social outcasts.  Disowned by her family, she raised Kalton on her own until she died from pneumonia when he was 10.  Since he was considered a disgrace, no one in his family would accept him, so he was left completely alone.  He set out to try and find away to be appreciated by his people, or to find a group that he could be part of.

While Kalton was in Pandora he heard rumors of a Guardian Shadow.  One of the first things he had learned was that anyone who uses the element of Shadow was inherently evil, and must be destroyed.  It was his people who had whipped out all of the Shadow mages centuries ago, and they were destined to destroy them again if they should ever return.  He reasoned that if he could kill Guardian Shadow, then he'd be a hero in Leukimbore, and not just a lowly bastard child.  He eventually fights Janus and loses, only to be revealed as Guardian Wind.  Janus realized how dangerous it'd be to have a Leukimborian partner, so he cursed Kalton.  If Kalton ever tried to kill Janus, then he'd die.  He realized though, that being a Guardian was too valuable of a role to lose, so he quit conspiring against Janus.

Kalton is a fairly skilled warrior, and proves to be a worthy member of the team.  Janus despises him for a long time, and refuses to work with him until Kalton proves his loyalty.  He actually rescues Janus from Rinold moments before he was to be publicly executed.  They are both almost killed escaping, and Kalton is branded a traitor who should be killed on sight if he ever returns.  Even after this, Janus and Kalton still fight, but far less intensely.  Kalton and Alfador are good friends, and they play chess together often.  He also falls in love with Celia, but never has the confidence to tell her.  Soon after he's exposed as a Guardian, his uncle Dalton finally acknowledges him.  He accepts responsibility for his nephew, but Kalton knows it's very insincere, and is just an attempt to use his.  He even tells Dalton that, and then that he doesn't mind, since insincere affection would be better than complete loneliness.  Eventually though, Dalton does start to actually care for him.  Through the Mystic Guardians Kalton gets the devotion, and unity he was looking for.  Just before he dies in Mystic Guardians Divine he says that if he had a chance to do everything over, he would still chose to be a Guardian even though he knew he'd die.  He goes on to say that his life would have be empty forever if he never met them, and that is far worse than death.

In the future Kalton's heartbroken when Celia marries, and even more so when she dies later.  He never falls in love again, but he does marry a female friend of his for shared logic.  They both think that it's necessary for a Guardian to have a child, and that he can't risk dying with out them.  This relationship is an act of logic, and a sacrifice in friendship instead of romantic love.
