Walking in my Winter Underwear!

Gotta have winter music.. "Sleigh Ride"

Hey! We got snow. In Maryland, this is big snow. Like, run to the store and buy all the bread, milk, toilet paper and beer snow.

Well... thats what they say, anyway.

These pictures are from the January 19th storm.

Total accumulation, less than six inches. The storm started in the afternoon. Schools, of course, were closed the following day. These pictures were shot on the 20th. It was a pretty grey day. Cassandra and Jingles had a good time playing in the snow.

    The happy snowman.
Hardly enough snow to bother with.
    An idylic winter scene.
Sliding down the hill on a broiler pan.
Which means you have to walk back up.
    The happy snowman and creator.
    The happy (and hairless) snowdog.
    Courier and Ives?
Jingles was just dancing around and really enjoying the snow.
    The kids playing.
Hard to tell, but Jingles is running around.
A couple of days later. The snowman has become a dog snow fort.

These pictures are from the January 25th storm.

The previous snow had just about melted when this hit. 14 inches in most places. More where it drifted. Was the biggest story on the news here. Everything, including the Federal government was closed for two days. The big fun here was getting up and down the driveway. These pictures were shot on the morning of the 26th.

That lump on the left is Nancy's car. She is not going anywhere for a while.
Barn and Garage. The snow is over 1 foot deep is most places.
Making tracks up the driveway. The little indentation in the middle is from the diffs.
Steep part of the lower driveway. Slid off to the side coming up the first time.
Why we drive Rovers. Lovely, isn't it?
Bottom of the driveway by the main road.

    Cleaning up - January 29th.

Shovel, shovel, shovel. Cleaned off the porch roofs. Shoveled the driveway. Finished up everything on the 29th. Got the driveway clean enough to drive Nancy's car down. She's been cooped up for a week and is getting cabin fever.

Nancy's big snowpile. She got her car shoveled out and actually moved it.
    Doesn't the yard look nice?
We didn't realize how much snow blew into the garage.
The barn, too. The Spitfire (under the blue cover) had an inch of snow on it.
The absolute worst part of the driveway.
I hate having my picture taken. Almost as much as I hate ladders.

    Ice Storm - January 30th.

I love to look at the result of ice storms. I hate to sit through one. We had sleet and rain pretty much all day on the 30th. The power went off at 8:30PM accompanied by a great pyrotecnics display towards town as a power line went down. The power was out for almost five hours. We had every candle in the house going. The pictures were taken on Monday (1/31) morning.
