 GHE hosting Mary Carney

 “A Simple Living Workshop” presented by Mary Carney will be the program for GHE Mom’s Night Out on Jan 24th at 7 p.m. at Community Church of Greenwood in the Hospitality Center.  Topics will be:  Living Simply on Less and Time Management for Moms.  This is open to the community, feel free to bring a guest along with you.  A freewill offering will be taken.  If possible, RSVP to Becky Shirley at 783-2421

 

 Congressman Dan Burton’s Youth Leadership Conference

 

The free Youth Leadership Conference will be on March 4 from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. for high school juniors and seniors at the Sterrett Center on what was formerly Ft. Benjamin Harrison.  Students can ask question of Congressman Burton, but also hear excellent speakers debate two issues:  Gambling and the Death Penalty.  If  you would like more information or to register, please contact Jackie Carroll at 800-382-6020.  Register by Feb. 21st so they can send information packets on the debates and finalize details regarding the conference.  Burton hopes homeschoolers will attend.

 

 

         Legislative Day on Feb. 8th     

This year’s Legislative Day is a full-packed day of learning!  The morning begins at 9 a.m. the Convention Center, Room 101 where Eric Miller of Advance America will discuss pro-family legislation.  At 10:30 you can tour the State House and meet your legislators.  At 12:00 the Rushingbrook Children’s Choir performs and Michael Farris of HSLDA speaks. 

 

From 2:00-5:00 in Room 101 at the Convention Center, you can attend the Citizen Leadership Symposium, Equipping the Next Generation to be Citizen Leaders of our Republic. Join Michael for this symposium covering the following topics:  understanding the four principles of America:  morality, self-government, freedom & sovereignty; studying history with the mind of a leader, constitutional basics, stories of courage and character, political activities you can do today, developing a vision for your future and America‘s future.   This symposium is for students 11-18 and their parents are welcome to attend.  The fee for the symposium is $10 a person or $30 a family.  You can register in advance through the IAHE office or at the door.

 

Please note:  Due to the formal business atmosphere of the Capitol, all attendees should dress appropriately.  First impressions are important.  Keep children quiet and respectful
