Literature on Philippine Lepidoptera

Only few larger publications are dealing exclusively with the Lepidoptera of the Philippines. The first major work was published by Semper (1886-1892), followed by many scientific papers by various authors, usually dealing with genera or single species. Up to now no "picture book" or fieldguide for a "quick and dirty" identification exists, but the supplements of the NEVA, recently published by the Entomolgical Society Apollo (Frankfurt/Germany;) are dedicated to Philippine Lepidoptera (and Trichoptera) only. At present they are the most comprehensive work on Philippine Lepidoptera, covering several families of butterflies and moths. While they are scientific papers with annotated checklists, revisions and new species descriptions, the large number of colour plates and differential diagnoses make them an inevitable identification tool for the enthusiast and amateur, too. Nearly all articles are written in English. Unfortunatly they are not well known and rarely offered, as the society doesn't put any effort into their marketing. They can be purchased from the society itself (Germany), the Antiquariat Goecke & Evers, Erich Bauer (Germany) or Apollo Books (Kirkeby Sand 19, DK-5771 Stenstrup Denmark).
