January's game summaries
The Lightning and Florida finish with a 2-2 tie. Alexander Selivanov and Jeff Norton
scored for Tampa. Norton's goal came on the power play. The Lightning are 6-1-5 in
the Ice Palace in their last 12 games.
The Mighty Ducks were too much for Tampa's rookie goaltenders as Anaheim beat Tampa
4-1. Paul Ysebaert got the lone goal for the Lighting. Derek Wilkinson left after
the first period with a sore right knee and was replaced by rookie Zac Bierk. Bierk
made his NHL debut and had 23 saves.
The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Lightning 5-2. Tampa gave up 3 power play goals.
They were without starting goalie Daren Puppa and backup Corey Schwab. Mikael
Renberg, Yves Racine, and Daymond Langkow were also injury scratches. Dino Ciccarelli
got the only goals for the Bolts. Zac Bierk replaced Derek Wilkinson to start the
third period.
The Lightning were on the short end of a 4-1 score with the New Jersey Devils. Dino
Ciccarelli lit the lamp for Tampa, which gives him 597 career goals. Zac Bierk got
his first NHL start. The Lightning gave up a short handed goal in the first period,
fell behind early, and never caught up.
Tampa lost to the Flyers 5-2 at the Ice Palace. Chris Gratton had a goal and 2
assists and Trent Klatt had 2 goals and an assist. Mikael Andersson had a
short handed goal and Steve Kelly scored on the power play. Kelly's moment of glory
was short lived, as he picked up a double spearing minor penaly on the play.
Montreal defeats the Lightning 6-3 in a route. The Canadiens scored 5 goals in the
first period. Paul Ysebaert, Daymond Langkow and Mikael Renberg all managed to score
for Tampa. Derek Wilkinson was the unfortunate soul that had to play in net for
Tampa.
The Lightning got pasted 7-1 by the New York Islanders. Zigmund Palffy had 2 goals
and 2 assists, Robert Reichel scored twice, Bryan Smolinski added a goal and an
assist, Dane Jackson and Kenny Jonsson also scored for the Isles. Zac Bierk was
the target in the shooting gallery, otherwise known as the Tampa net. Reichel was
awarded a successful penalty shot when Bierk threw his stick at the puck. Mikael
Renberg got the lone Lightning goal.
Washington beat the Lightning 3-2 in overtime. The Capitals got the game winner with
just 88 seconds left in ot. Alexander Selivanov and Jason Wiemer scored for Tampa.
Goaltender Mark Fitzpatrick made his Lightning debut and stopped 27 shots.
Tampa lost this time to Buffalo 4-1. Bryan Marchment scored his first goal of the
season in a Tampa uniform. Dominik Hasek stopped 35 shots to help carry the Sabres
to the win.
Toronto 5-2 over the Lightning. Daymond Langkow and Mikael Andersson got the game tied
at 2-2 in the first period. the Maple Leafs went on to score 3 unanswered goals in
the second period to cruise to the win.
The Senators squeaked by the Lightning in the third period, beating the Bolts 2-1.
Janne Laukkanen scored the winning goal with less than a minute in the game. Ottawa
got tied the score on a third period power play. Stephane Richer got his first Tampa
Bay goal to start the scoring.
Tampa gives up the game in the third period again, losing to Carolina 3-2. the
Lightning started the third period with a 2 goal lead. Martin Gelinas, Robert Kron
and Kevin Dineen scored in less than 6 minutes to get the victory. Bryan Marchment
and Steve Kelly got the Tampa goals.
Florida struck the Lightning quickly, getting 2 goals in the first 5 minutes of the
game. Tampa did not win a game in the month of January. Kirk Muller scored the game
winner 18 seconds into the first period.
