The Buffalo Sabres beat Tampa 7-3 at the Ice Palace. The Lightning have not won
since beating the Rangers on New Year's Eve. Rob Zamuner, Cory Cross and Brent
Peterson scored for the Lighting with Cross' a short handed goal. Richard Smehlik
started the scoring with a short handed goal four minutes into the first period.
The Sabres got 2 more in the opening period of the game. Buffalo lit the lamp again
less than 1 minute in the second. Zac Bierk was brought in to replace starter Mark
Fitzpatrick.

Carolina tied Tampa 3-3 with help from the officials. Jeff O'Neill scored with less
than 2 mins left in regulation play. The goal should not have been allowed. Not only
were Hurricane players in the crease, the puck was clearly kicked in by the
Hurricanes, and Mark Fitzpatrick had frozen the puck and play should have been
whistled dead. Darcy Tucker, Brent Peterson, and Mikael Renberg all scored for the
Lightning. Renberg's goal was short handed. Three Lightning players were whistled for
2 minute minor penalties in a span of 1:38 on some controversial calls in the first
period. Carolina took advantage of the 5 on 3 and got a power play goal. Although
Tampa ended it's losing steak, they were robbed of the victory.
Tampa Bay lost to the defending Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings 5-4 in a close
game at the Ice Palace. Mikael Renberg, Paul Ysebaert, Cory Cross, and Jason
Bonsignore scored for Tampa. It was Bonsignore's first goal with the Lightning. The
Lightning fell behind early 2-0, but came back to score 3 goals in the second period
to take the lead. Detroit would answer with 2 power play goals and never looked back.
The Lightning finally got their long awaited win, beating the Washington Capitals 4-3.
Jason Wiemer and Stephane Richer each had a goal and 2 assists and Darcy Tucker and
Paul Ysebaert also scored. Mark Fitzpatrick got his first victory in a Lightning
uniform. Tampa and Washington will again square off immediately after the Olympic
break.
Tampa started off after the Olympic break the same way they went into the
break...with a victory over Washington. Alex Selivanov scored the first and
last goal for the Lightning. The game winner came with less than 8 seconds
left in the game. The Bolts got out to a 2-0 lead before letting the Capitals
back into the game. Craig Berube tied the score, 3-3, with less than 8 mins
left in the third period. Darcy Tucker and Paul Ysebaert also got goals for
Tampa.
The Devils beat the Lightning 4-1 at the Ice Palace in Tampa. Daymond Langkow
got the lone Tampa goal. Bobby Holik scored twice for the Devils, his last goal
being an empty netter.
The Lightning once again defeat the Capitals, this time 5-2. David Wilkie and
Paul Ysebaert scored as the Lightning jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Washington tied it
up with 2 goals in 7 seconds. Jody Hull and Cory Cross scored within 15 seconds to
get the 2 goal lead back. Paul Ysebaert added an empty net goal.
