...and noticed the AG logo was missing... perhaps it has something to do with case sensitivity... I know I've had a bit of 'fun' with that too...
If your file is uploaded... say with a capital letter eg Pointy.gif... and the htm file is looking for pointy.gif, it won't be found... It works okay in Windows95 so it wouldn't have been obvious while you were testing your page from your own computer... but... it won't work over the Internet.
![]() did you know that if you had put http:// with the address (in your email), ie http://www.parkes.nsw.gov.au I would have been able to click on the address to go to the site?
![]() I have been retrieving my mail with FTP tonight I had a brainwave... I tried IE mail first... but it still wouldn't work so... I collected the mixed-up message in Eudora, telling it to delete from the server... Then sent myself a message to test it... I got it... so... that means I've fixed it!!
Last week I wasn't able to collect my mail properly for 4 days... on Monday night everything just stopped - when I tried to Ping Lisp, I was told it didn't exist... just after it 'came back', I received a mixed up mail message - several messages joined together... and only the last one of about 5 was mine. The first one had a picture file attached... anyway, the whole thing was about 50K.. after that, no mail came through... but after the first two days, I retrieved my mail via FTP The 50K grew to 114K by Friday Friday night I decided to collect the mixed up file in Eudora, telling it to delete messages from the server. I normally use Internet Explorer Mail, leaving messages on the server for 3 days so I can collect 'special' messages in Netscape Anyway... Eudora deleted the file and my mail is back to normal... and I was rather pleased with myself! So I did get your message during the week... but a bit late, and not in my mailbox. I was pretty sure my mail was still being sent...
![]() I thought I was sending you a page as an attachment, but apparently the attachment was only the address to take you to that page. It worked as if it was a page while I was online...
![]() I know I said that I found columns hard to read... because I have to keep scrolling up and down... but... text all the way across the screen is a bit much too... (especially at 800 by 600 and 1024 by 768) I've read that the ideal is 10-14 words per line... You can use tables for a narrower 'page'... I've now realised that I can also use blockquote...

I got sidetracked... fiddling with your logos I have had a go at changing the ucsback.gif to a two color file... tidying up the text while I was at it. It has gone from 3481 bytes to 2035 bytes. I worked on UCSLogo3.jpg... changing it to a 16 color GIF file with transparent background. It went from 10,657 bytes to 6668 bytes. There's no need to have a separate small version of your picture. You can load the bigger one, giving different width and height values. If the bigger one has already been used, it will load from the hard drive... saving time...
![]() I didn't mean I had to scroll... I just meant that we read narrower text more easily... it's easier on the eyes... that's why columns are good... in print media... not on screen...
Do you realise that you don't have to save as BMP any more for wallpaper...? while in Internet Explorer, you can SET AS WALLPAPER... from a right click on the graphic...

The email on these pages is mail I've sent... but I would like to throw this one in... it is one of my favourite 'in' emails:
Thanks for the backgrounds and remodelled Logo. They were very useful. I changed my site straight away. It looks much better so I can thank you for that. What other magic tricks can you perform?
![]() I had another look at your source... looking for the graphics in a directory on your hard drive means it will only work on your computer... as you are the only one who has access to that directory... file:///C|/~My Files/Web Page/Temp/Review.GIF won't work!
all the pics on the front page are there now... but in Internet Explorer - at 640 by 480 at least - the text positions don't match the pics as I suspected, you have designed your page for a resolution of 800 by 600 I try to test my pages in 640 by 480 and 800 by 600 in Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer I know that some of mine have 'wraparound' backgrounds in 1024 by 768, but I can't allow for everything (21 May 1998... I'm allowing for 1024 by 768)

You do know that you can grab any pics/animations/backgrounds you see on any page you browse, don't you... I mean 'can' rather than 'may'... some people ask that you don't use their graphics By the way, I didn't make any of these... I found them on the Web. There are several on our pages. The dancing bear was made by me from a clipart bear and I made the 'it's versus its' text one. A lot of the others have been reduced in size by me or by the Gif Wizard, but I didn't do the artwork.
![]() Have you ever gone to a site with frames inside a site with frames inside... on low resolution?? It's called frame hell... is there a way out?
![]() I think there are different ways to change fonts. Apparently the way I've been doing it is not accepted by all HTML checkers... but it works for Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator... I added font face="arial" As I said in my Notebook, only users who have the arial font installed will see it in that font. If they don't have it, the page will display in the default font. The default on Windows machines is Times New Roman unless the user has set it differently. To allow a second choice of font, you would add another font name after arial, eg font face="arial", "verdana" You can add more choices...

A couple of months ago I downloaded the 1MB Mudball file. I'm sure you know that uncompressed it is nearly 2MB. Today I found the Shockwave version. It is only 187KB and looks and plays exactly the same. If there's always that sort of difference in filesize, give me Shockwave every time. And yes, the game is good too... although as with all things 'educational', my girls haven't asked to play it again. However, if the younger one (6) sees me playing it, she'll probably want to have a go.
![]() I've been trying to find ways to break out of frames... I have added a command to my page, so that if you follow a link from that page, the next page will open free of frames... so... my page can still open in someone else's frames... but... my next page will be free of frames! (the command is at the top of this page too - view the source to see it)
![]() any comments?
