Seeing a bunch of cyclists on the streets in not a normal sighting. You surely have some questions. We'll try to answer them:

Who are these people?
We're a 'Critical Mass' of MumBIKERS who wish to reclaim our public spaces, and assert our right to use them without polluting the environment and affecting our health. We wish to create a space where we can articulate our own ideas by taking an active role in building a livable future

What do we plan to do about it?
We plan to take to the streets of Mumbai on the last Friday of every month on bicycles and we ask you to come join us. We wish to reclaim the streets as public space and to hold up a mirror to motorists. Bicycles are there to be ridden, not carried on the back of a car to approved riding venues.

So how does cycling once a month on crowded streets help?
Critical Mass intends to be a catalyst for different individuals and groups to network and build relationships based on common interests. It is a public meeting where most everybody can attend. It is a regular, yet enjoyable meeting that simultaneously sends a social message even as it happens. The cycle ride gives people and groups the opportunity to collaborate with other groups that are fighting different symptoms of the same problem.

Who started this?
It's a people's intiative. Citizens of Mumbai and students who want change started it. It does not belong to any one group or organization. It's as much your movement as it is mine.

How can I do something that will be of significance?
All in all, a monthly bicycle ride through the city is a decentralized yet coordinated action where no one is in charge and everyone is free to share their ideas, work and vision for a better future. Mumbaikars and MumBIKERS need this space to talk about alternatives to the destruction of our social and natural fabric.
