Introduction

When I first decided to create a personal website, my intention was simply to put my family history on the web (if that sounds rather pointless, see the note below under "Daly family history"). Then I thought that if I was going to have a personal website, I may as well add a few other things to it too. So if the contents of this site seem an odd combination, well, that's because they are...

Contents

Keats & Chapman

Brian O'Nolan, best known as the novelist Flann O'Brien, was also a columnist for the Irish Times, writing under the name Myles na gCopaleen. Occasionally he included in the column anecdotes about two characters called Keats & Chapman. These anecdotes were all vehicles for a punch line which would be a marvellous (or excruciating) play on words. This page contains some stories of my own on the same lines.

Limericks

Limericks are marvellous things (in moderate doses, anyway). This page contains a selection of the many I've written, along with a sprinkling of others for which I'm not responsible.

Logic Puzzles

This is a selection of logic puzzles and similar brain-tormenting problems. Some of them are as old as the hills (well, nearly!) whilst others are original. There is a solutions page.

Mead

Mead, like the limerick, is a marvellous thing, too (and in any dosage). I never seem to have time to make the stuff now, but I have made a lot of it over the years, and drunk most of it myself (not because others wouldn't, I hasten to add). This page contains some straightforward recipes and notes on methods.

Miscellany

This is an organised collection of links to sites which I've found useful or interesting or both. Its contents are quite varied, and I hope at least a few of its visitors may find a gem or two amongst the chaff (or whatever the metaphor is).

Daly family history

Having become the oldest member of my branch of the family, I decided it really was time to get round to doing that research into my family history that I had always meant to start on one day. Unfortunately, when there are no older generations left, immediate sources of information are rather limited. So, having put together what little I've been able to so far, I've put it on these pages in the hope that someone searching for a surname common to my family and theirs will find that our family histories are linked, and contact me. Thus we both gain new information. If you're unfamiliar with family history on the internet, you might be surprised at how many people put their family history on a website for this reason.
Update, 12 Apr 2001: And the proof of the pudding... Out of the blue recently I had an email from someone who turns out to be a second cousin. She'd found my family history pages and spotted a connection. From her I have a mass of new family history information, which I've now added to this site.
